Oral disease continues to be a serious public health problem in the Philippines. About 92.4% of Filipinos have tooth decay (dental caries) and 78% have gum diseases (periodontal diseases) (DOH, NMEDS 1998). This posts a great challenge to our dental providers in general. While these diseases are preventable and these figures were recorded about ten years ago, but is still quite a massive workload to consider.
Primarily, this is the reason why dentists of general practice nowadays are becoming more aggresive in promoting oral hygiene while, at the same time, infusing some sophistication in their practice by adopting available technology in dentistry.
